Gonorrhea
摘要
Gonorrhea, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, can impact the urogenital tract, anorectal region, pharynx, and eyes. If left untreated, complications such as disseminated infection, septic arthritis, endocarditis, and pelvic inflammatory disease may occur. The incidence of gonorrhea is increasing in many countries, although reporting rates have fluctuated due to factors including the availability and utilization of healthcare services and socioeconomic conditions. Diagnosis of gonorrhea can be achieved through microscopy, culture, or molecular methods. The standard treatment regimen are according to local resistance profile and national guidelines. The escalating challenge of antibiotic resistance complicates the management of this infection. Prompt initiation of treatment is essential to prevent further transmission and associated complications. Preventive measures for gonorrhea include the adoption of safe sex practices, consistent condom use, and regular screenings for sexually transmitted infections.
