Applications of Evidence-Based Practice in Pediatric Settings
摘要
In addition to presenting with core features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), children with ASD also require routine medical care and, at times, emergency or hospital-based care for medical conditions. While some medical care for autistic individuals has been deemed evidence-based, many of the guidelines that exist for primary care or hospital-based clinicians are developed through clinical consensus. This chapter will review common co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions associated with ASD as well as the evidence-based practices or clinical consensus guidelines that exist for managing those associated symptoms. Evidence-based resources that specifically aim to support clinicians in the medical setting are also included.
