Sensory Interventions: Evidence and Appropriate Use
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of sensory features and primarily discusses an evidence-based intervention, Ayres Sensory Integration®, to address their impact. Information on how to ensure best practice for occupational therapists and other practitioners using Ayres Sensory Integration® is discussed, including receiving advanced training and certification, following the manualized protocol, using a fidelity measure to assure adherence to principles and practices, and following the data-driven decision-making process. In addition to further research needed on sensory-based interventions, future areas of research in Ayres Sensory Integration® include enhancing access and utilization of Ayres Sensory Integration® services for minority children, expanding treatment to children younger than 3 years and older than 14 years, and adapting the manualized protocol to allow for its use in schools, telehealth and other service delivery options for treatment.
