Citrus family fruits are among the largest grown fruits all over the world and they contribute a great deal to agricultural production. However, enormous amounts of waste is also produced when these fruits are processed such as peels, seeds, pulp and other by-products which create a challenge for the environment but also gives an opportunity for circular economy. This chapter explains the complexities faced during valorization of citrus waste and talks about the challenges and opportunities presented by these by-products. The use of the value-added byproducts can vary from nutraceutical, functional food ingredients, to oils, biofuels and biochemicals. This chapter also explains the issues faced during valorization such as high moisture, seasonal variability and regulations. Additionally, opportunities for citrus waste valorization are also discussed that includes nutraceuticals, essential oils, and pectin extraction from citrus waste. Furthermore, the use of such waste in animal feed, compost production, and soil conditioning are also explored all focusing on circular bioeconomy. This chapter is a step forward for adding knowledge to citrus valorization so that citrus industry can use the waste they generate and have economic benefits from it along with reducing the environmental impact of citrus processing.
