As a widely grown fruit crop, citrus is a diversified genus in the family of Rutaceae that contributes significantly to both economic prosperity and nourishment. As a byproduct of the processing of citrus fruits, its waste is an abundant resource of bioactive substances that may have beneficial health effects. For example, therapeutic food may be created to treat a number of medical problems. Nevertheless, harmful or possibly toxic agents and solvents are often employed in traditional recovery procedures for these materials, creating questions regarding the effects that these techniques may have on the natural world and public health. Green technologies, which utilize environmentally friendly techniques to reduce the application of harmful chemicals and solvents, provide an environmentally friendly choice to purify bioactive substances from food waste. An overview of environmentally friendly approaches for the extraction of beneficial substances from citrus waste is discussed in this chapter, with particular attention to methods such as pulsed electric field extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, and ultrasound-assisted extraction. The technique’s benefits and drawbacks are examined, along with its uses in the food sector.

摘要
