The “kissing disease” The EpsteinBarr virus
摘要
Panel 20. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is part of the herpesvirus family. It is named after its two discoverers, Michael Epstein and Yvonne Barr, in the early 1960s. The image on left shows a cross-section of a cell massively infected by this virus: the cell is indeed literally covered on its surface by the viruses that have just being released. The image on right allows to visualize EBV at higher magnifi cation, clearly showing that this is an enveloped virus containing a spherical capsid.
