In this chapter, the potential vorticity evolution equation derived in the previous chapter is reformulated for subinertial motions within the so-called quasigeostrophic approximation. In this dynamical context, it will be easy to study Rossby waves, whose main atmospheric and oceanic characteristics will be analysed.

摘要
