Climate resilience is a complex and often contested concept, vulnerable to varying interpretations that can serve different interests and actors. This chapter presents a framework for analyzing and categorizing climate resilience discourses, focusing on their conceptual foundations, key targets, and institutional advocates. The Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change advocate for Ecosystem-based Adaptation as a crucial climate change strategy. EbA enhances resilience by leveraging biodiversity and ecosystem services. Critical practices include Restoring mangroves to mitigate storm surges. Managing watersheds are to reduce droughts and floods. Implementing rangeland management to prevent desertification sustainably managing fisheries and forests are to secure food supplies. These approaches support climate adaptation and protect and sustain vital ecosystems. These approaches shield communities from climate impacts, such as extreme weather events, and offer co-benefits like biodiversity conservation and improved livelihoods. Integrating EbA into policy and planning provides adaptive, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions, fostering long-term resilience for both human and natural systems. Few modern climate resilience strategies involve ecological alternatives, such as restoring coastal ecosystems for the sequestration of blue carbon and adaptive land management to enhance biodiversity. Together with advanced CO2 capture techniques like microalgae cultivation, these strategies provide viable means to slow global warming while preserving vital ecological functions.
