African swine fever (ASF) is highly infectious and deadly disease caused by the ASF virus (ASFV). The virus was first discovered in the year 1921 from Africa. Now, it has spread worldwide from Europe, Asia, and Africa to American countries. In the recent years, several whole-genome studies are being performed on ASFV; thereto, a sum of 324 whole/nearly whole genomes of ASFV isolates are available in the GenBank by May 2024. This chapter is presenting a phylogenetic analysis of whole-genome assemblies of 99 ASFV isolates (selected out of 324 available genomes based on the similarity and region of isolation) from various continents and countries, such as Africa (Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Kenya, Congo, Burundi, Benin, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Mauritius, and Mozambique), Asia (Singapore, Russia, Mongolia, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, India, Serbia, the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and Ukraine), Europe (Hungary, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Germany, Georgia, Czech Republic, Spain, Cameroon, Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and France), and South America (Dominican Republic only). The phylogenetic study provided in this chapter included maximum number of genomic sequences of worldwide isolates of ASFV in comparison to the studies done so far. The study provided in the present chapter will help to understand the genetic divergence among virus isolates from various regions over the time caused due to mutations throughout genome of these isolates. This chapter also provides the brief of most of the published work based on phylogenetic studies on ASFV in the recent years.
