Beyond the shared use of small-gauge formats, these groups often traversed similar circuits and backgrounds, united in their quest for alternative viewing spaces. Reflecting on how to convey this cinematic heritage, we revive these representative yet variable films through exhibitions, installations and performative screenings beyond traditional cinema spaces. Theoretical and methodological reflections delve into contemporary restoration practices, discussing criticalities and providing analyses. New film prints recreate the original projection experience, with projectors reintegrated into the performative dimension. Our focus extends to curatorial considerations, ensuring a nuanced appreciation of small-gauge films for today’s diverse audience, both general and specialized.
