This chapter explores how the populist right Self in Germany has attempted to reconstruct itself from the society's Other into one of societie's mainstream Self, thus an alternative Self. The chapter analyzes the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) as key actor among the right-wing populists in Germany, along with other populist groups such as PEGIDA, or the Querdenker grouping active during the Covid-19 pandemic. The chapter’s focus lies on the means and strategies pursued by the AfD in efforts to normalize the party into mainstream politics and to reconstruct it as part of the center of German society. Complementary, the chapter takes into view how other populist groups have portrayed themselves as part of the German mainstream in the last years.
