The aim of this chapter is to understand the nature of the Portuguese Chega party and its framework within the discussion on the rise of the populisms of the new European radical right, emphasizing discursive strategies of polarization between “us and “them,” calling out as “others,” and the way it capitalizes on issues related to the identity of the native people to exclude groups that do not share the identity and values of the “pure people.” Through a semantic analysis of the publications of André Ventura on the social network Twitter, we intend to observe the discursive strategies mobilized in the opposition of the “pure people” or native to the so-called out-groups of the population, observing, particularly, the xenophobic and Islamophobic discourse.
