This is the only prospective randomized trial to date formally assessing robotic surgery for rectal cancer when compared to laparoscopic surgery. Conversion rates, perioperative morbidity, sexual and urinary complication rates were similar. Following a laborious gestation the ROLARR trial is now approximately 10-year-old. Despite its findings not obviously in favor of robotic surgery, it is fair to say that the results of this trial ultimately have not prevented robotic surgery to become increasingly accepted in the treatment of rectal cancer.

摘要

This is the only prospective randomized trial to date formally assessing robotic surgery for rectal cancer when compared to laparoscopic surgery. Conversion rates, perioperative morbidity, sexual and urinary complication rates were similar. Following a laborious gestation the ROLARR trial is now approximately 10-year-old. Despite its findings not obviously in favor of robotic surgery, it is fair to say that the results of this trial ultimately have not prevented robotic surgery to become increasingly accepted in the treatment of rectal cancer.
