This series includes a large number of patients who underwent anterior resection using stapled technique. All patients underwent open operations, and the majority of the anastomoses were constructed using single-stapled technique, both of which hardly apply to contemporary practices. However, the data still effectively demonstrated the relationship between distance of the anastomosis from the anal verge and anastomotic leak following anterior resection, a principle which remains true to this day.

摘要
