Lymphatic vessel transplantation (LLT) and lympholymphatic bypasses (LLB): Both operations improve flow disorders in the lymphatic vessel system. A bypass is created either by free transplantation of a lymph vessel or by anastomosis with another lymph vessel to bridge a passage obstruction. Free LLT and LLB are a treatment option from the field of microsurgical reconstructive procedures. Data from Baumeister’s results show stable long-term results for both methods, with a clearly measurable reduction in limb circumference. They are a treatment option for unilateral lymphoedema of the lower extremity or lymphoedema of the upper extremity, as two healthy lower extremities are then available as a donor region. No data are available on how long post-operative compression treatment is required. On average, the post-operative compression treatment is used 6–12 months after surgery. The same applies to patient-centered care, with post-operative manual lymphatic drainage and physical therapy.
