Diversity and Discrimination in Business Ethics, Higher Education, and Society: An Introduction
摘要
This book engages the reader in a series of articles on various aspects of diversity and discrimination in business ethics, higher education, and society. Diversity, equity, and inclusion have become au courant phrases with corrective practices that attempt to rectify what Provis in chapter “Questions of Discrimination” calls “discrimination for the wrong reasons.” Issues related to workplace equity status among targeted groups have been widespread since the 1980s (Muller et al., 2023). These practices have been imposed by governments as employers within in the public sector, as well as voluntarily assumed or mandated policy and practice directed at corporations and the society at large. These impositions have been prevalent, at least with respect to most democratic nations for the past four or five decades. As well, universities have, for at least 40 years, introduced measures, such as targeted special approaches to admission as well as student services support for student populations seen as traditionally disadvantaged and the victims of discrimination, for many and various reasons, most of which belong to race, culture, and/or socioeconomic status.
