In the context of the forced reducing of carbon dioxide emissions hydrogen driven internal combustion engines can be a useful technical solution. In the paper the authors show how to use a cogeneration unit as a test platform for research in the field of hydrogen combustion. First, the benefits of the type of the test platform will be described (e.g. stationary operation point, integrated dyno, single cylinder design). Furthermore, because of the hydrogen combustion-based requirements several engine parts have to be customized or new designed. The most important part of the process is the cylinder head, which has been manufactured with an additively technology SLM (Selective Laser Melting). This technology provides a maximum degree of freedom regarding to the usual manufacturing limits of conventional technologies.

摘要
