Have you ever wondered why there are two high tides and two low tides each day and why each is so different, or why the overall tidal ranges within each month tend to vary between being relatively large (spring tides) and relatively small (neap tides)? If so, you are not alone. In every generation, humans have pondered these questions. Also of wonder are why sea level tends to be higher in summer and lower in winter, and why with the passage of weather fronts the shore parallel winds set sea level up or down; whereas, with the passage of a hurricane, it is the shore normal winds that do this.
