Delivering fixed broadband services faces several challenges. Besides the substantial costs associated with new infrastructure and equipment, the current mobile communication bands are insufficient to meet future traffic demands. To address this, new bands at higher frequencies are required to provide larger spectrum blocks for operators. However, this introduces challenges related to the link budget for the higher frequencies. To overcome these issues and support high traffic capacity and extended transmission ranges, enhanced technical solutions are necessary. This chapter explores various enabling solutions that can make 5G FWA a viable, affordable, and future-proof option for expanding broadband services and bridging the digital divide.
