Defending Against Malicious Code: A Comprehensive Study of Evasion and Mitigation Techniques

The Internet of Things (IoT) is not only experiencing rapid development but also supporting the prosperity of the digital economy. The interconnectedness of everything within the digital economy has brought economic growth to countries, but it has also given rise to serious security threats. The threat landscape has evolved, making it increasingly difficult for single security devices to detect these attacks. Anonymous communication and network traffic obfuscation, while protecting privacy, also provide a means for malicious traffic to evade intrusion detection. This article provides an introduction to attacks and evasion techniques employed by malicious software in the current digital economy, focusing on both code and traffic aspects. These techniques include obfuscation, dynamic link library hijacking, encryption, protocol tunneling, fragmentation, and reassembly. Furthermore, the article discusses various software and hardware technologies for detection and prevention of malware infection, such as sandboxing and memory protection. Lastly, the article explores and analyzes the evasion and detection of future malicious programs, while also highlighting the network security opportunities and challenges in the future digital economy.
