Clinical Application of Sleep in MSK Regeneration Medicine
摘要
Sleep disorders can be diagnosed by taking an appropriate history and performing sleep diagnostic studies. Sleep diagnostics may be used to assess sleep loss by pattern analysis and sleep architecture to assess quality of sleep progression throughout the night. Diagnosis of hypoxia and obstructive sleep apnoea will include respiratory parameters such as oxygen saturation and airflow analysis. Identifying patients with sleep disorders can be facilitated by using established and validated sleep screening questionnaires. Sleep disorders management needs early intervention as processes for recovery and regeneration often take time to improve. A multidisciplinary approach to managing patients with musculoskeletal conditions which need regenerative treatments should be implemented. It is recommended that management of sleep disorders follow guidelines where appropriate and available. Management of sleep loss will involve cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia and medication, whilst management of obstructive sleep apnoea will often involve the use of devices such as CPAP. Improving sleep will have overall benefits to patients undergoing musculoskeletal regeneration procedures.
