Introduction: Mapping the Early Modern Inns of Court
摘要
This book is a volume structured around our understanding of the literary communities which developed both within and without these legal institutions. Recognised for some time by scholars as influential centres of creative and intellectual activity, the inns are now thought to have played a key part in the development of ideas, literary endeavour, and wider action in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This volume brings together some of the new directions being taken in current scholarship on the inns in order to illuminate their status as important physical, intellectual, and international spaces and to offer fresh insights into their literary and cultural investments and interactions.
