This chapter describes severe infections seen in solid-organ transplant recipients, mostly occurring a few weeks to months after transplantation. Special consideration has been given to infections that may lead to hospitalization in an intensive care unit instead of less common, opportunistic infections that may not be severe enough to be managed in a critical care setting. Infections are grouped as clinical syndromes. Treatment recommendations are provided with emphasis on how therapeutic approaches are unique in solid-organ transplant recipients.
