The incidence of in-hospital cardiac arrest is rising without major improvements in morbidity and mortality outcomes. Critical care pharmacists are essential members of the code team, with the most common role being ownership of the code cart. Pharmacist presence has been attributed to increased guideline compliance, mortality reduction, cost reduction, and reduced error rates. This chapter strengthens pharmacists’ knowledge of cardiac arrest background, diagnosis, algorithm management, and adjunctive therapies to further enhance their role in in-hospital cardiac arrests. Additionally, data supporting the role of the pharmacist in code response will be presented to heighten institutional support for advanced pharmacist roles and expansive coverage.
