Internships have always been part of the training of Social Workers in Portugal. In the current model of internships in Social Work degree programme at Castelo Branco School of Education, scientific-pedagogical supervision is a training model that promotes performance skills for the profession in a logic of critical reflection. Between 2016/17 academic year and the first half of 2022/23, 637 curricular internships of 2nd and 3rd-years were carried out in 13 districts in mainland Portugal (72%), with a significant focus on the ageing environments. Between the 2015/16 academic year and the 1st semester of the 2022/23 academic year, 31% of the total number of students (221) did internships in social response contexts aimed at the elderly. Results are presented of the content analysis carried out on a total of 31 final internship reports from the 3rd and final curricular year of the Social Work degree, promoted between the 2019/20 and 2021/22 academic years, in response of population ageing challenges, particularly in low-density territories. This reflection developed following priorities for Social Work training agenda: (a) recognising the importance of the curricular internship as an research object; (b) more significant transfer of the results of the pre-professional internship projects produced by 3rd-year interns in social contexts for ageing, research and intervention; (c) creation evaluation indicators for curricular internship projects that integrate new evaluation components such as sustainability, contribution to change, innovation and social impact; (d) greater visibility to contributions to social change as a reflection of the vision of Social Work in ageing communities.
