Under the Tower Trilogy: Sundial, A13, Island Race
摘要
Returning to some of the structural film concerns from the 1970s, Sundial performs a one-minute encirclement around the newly built Canary Wharf Tower that involved a rediscovery of the area in east London where Raban has lived since 1976. Filmed in the same locality, A13 adopts many of the camera and editing techniques used by Dziga Vertov in the 1920s. It captures a time when far-right violence affected Tower Hamlets that is also an underlying theme for Island Race, an autoethnographic study in chronicle form. Eschewing commentary, the film constructs political meaning through images filmed in the vicinity of Canary Wharf Tower brought to life by David Cunningham’s sound post-production and music.
