The Metaverse is a virtual, interactive space parallel to the real world, offering an immersive experience with seamless connectivity. The combination of Metaverse and artificial intelligence provides new infinite potentials for education. The AI-enabled Metaverse has distinct characteristics such as personalized learning paths, automated content creation, and adaptive assessment, etc. These new features provide opportunities to achieve the goals of smart education through applications on class-based instruction, group-based learning, individual-based learning, and autonomous learning processes. However, the implementation still faces the challenges from technological accessibility, data privacy problem, pedagogical integration, sustainability, disruption of use, and ethical considerations. While the improvement of emerging Metaverse devices and widespread of Metaverse applications bring opportunities to satisfy diverse educational needs, it is necessary to further take a holistic approach to build a complete AI-enabled educational Metaverse ecosystem, which requires multi-dimensional support from the perspectives of techniques, policies, and value.

The combination of Metaverse and artificial intelligence provides new infinite potentials for education. The AI-enabled Metaverse has distinct characteristics such as personalized learning paths, automated content creation, and adaptive assessment, etc. These new features provide opportunities to achieve the goals of smart education through applications on class-based instruction, group-based learning, individual-based learning, and autonomous learning processes. However, the implementation still faces the challenges from technological accessibility, data privacy problem, pedagogical integration, sustainability, disruption of use, and ethical considerations. While the improvement of emerging Metaverse devices and widespread of Metaverse applications bring opportunities to satisfy diverse educational needs, it is necessary to further take a holistic approach to build a complete AI-enabled educational Metaverse ecosystem, which requires multi-dimensional support from the perspectives of techniques, policies, and value.
