Based on the electrical conductivity and the SAR value of the groundwater, the water quality can be described as good to medium-good. The evaluation of soil is based on the efforts that need to be made to improve the location and was derived from the following soil properties: salinity, stone density of the soil cover, stone content of the pedon, depth to solid rock, depth of groundwater level, and clay content. Land suitability of the dominant soils as well as the best soil of the various soil associations in southwest Egypt is presented on a land suitability map. It shows that the best soil association is found within the Serir plains. The worst soil association is found on the limestoneLimestone plateau. To quantify the suitability of soil for irrigated agriculture, the following parameters were further evaluated in detail: The quantitative evaluation of soil parameters that are difficult or expensive to improve were given more importance than those that can be improved easily: soil depth and stone content, water permeabilityWater permeability, and the salinity of soil were evaluated with a grade (= index) between 0 and 4, while the available water capacityAvailable water capacity, the nutrient content, the aeration capacity, and the stone content on the soil surface were rated with an index between 0 and 2 or 1.5. The quality index of the best soil is 0 and that of the worst soil is 27. All soils must be fertilized with N and P. Drip irrigation must be combined with basin irrigation. Agroforestry is the best cultivation system for this region.
