According to data from the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL 2020), in the south of the state of Nuevo Leon between 60 and 80% of the population lives in poverty and extreme poverty. This economic aspect generates a series of problems: from the social point of view, rural communities are still governed by patriarchal structures and the family structure is determined by migratory dynamics that fragment families leaving them in a continuous state of abandonment. From an environmental point of view, problems such as insufficient water supplies have a direct impact on family income. Finally, poor housing quality and lack of basic infrastructure generates a low quality of life. In this chapter we aim to present a sustainable regeneration model applied to a location of El Refugio de Cerros Blancos, a small village of the municipality of Mier y Noriega, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This model is founded on entrepreneurial outreach based on social development, community leadership and social cohesion, methodologies of Design Thinking and strategic planning in the design processes of community-based architecture and the implementation of follow-up strategies.
