Case 7: Saltillo, Mexico

The certification driving cycles do not necessarily represent the driving conditions of cities in Mexico and Latin America. For this reason, it is important to determine a driving cycle for each case study with a methodology that includes the monitoring of different types of vehicles, with the maximum possible amount of data and available vehicles. Under this premise, the representative driving cycle was determined for the city of Saltillo, an intermediate city in Latin America, characterized by its high industrial development, which generates continuous movements of its inhabitants between the different areas of the city. This driving cycle was determined to highlight the vehicle driving pattern among the fundamental pillars of urban mobility in cities and its intrinsic relationship with energy consumption and vehicle emissions. A speed-time series of nearly 1,198 s, 26% idle time and 0.27 L/km of specific fuel consumption was determined as a representative driving cycle with the energy-based microtrip method.
