Measurement and Analysis on Effects of Peripheral Vision Training on Human Body

Generally, healthy people obtain approximately 80% of their sensory information from their vision. However, the amount of time spent using smartphones has been increasing in recent years. In particular, there are concerns about an increase in the number of young people suffering from acute esotropia and a decline in their visual acuity. Therefore, training to improve visual acuity using stereoscopic images has been attracting attention. It is necessary to conduct studies on whether young people can see stereoscopic images. In this study, a stress test was conducted on healthy young subjects to determine whether they can see stereoscopic images. Additionally, the effectiveness of visual training (VIT) to improve visual acuity using stereoscopic images was measured in healthy young men. The results showed that 45% of the subjects were unable to see stereoscopic images within 3 min, highlighting a serious concern. Furthermore, immediately after our original training to improve visual acuity, there was a temporary improvement in the visual acuity of the subject in their peripheral vision fields (VAPFs). However, this improvement was not sustained until the next day’s pre-measurement. As a future perspective, it is necessary to confirm whether the change in visual acuity and the persistence of the improvement can be maintained by increasing the time and frequency of the VIT.
