As the trend of societal aging intensifies, the design of senior-friendly communities becomes crucial. In recent years, augmented reality (AR) has emerged as a promising technological approach, garnering widespread attention from researchers. AR enhances and optimizes real-world scenes digitally, offering a range of functionalities and services. It serves as a tool to improve the quality of life and overall experience for the elderly; provides effective assistance in senior-friendly communities; and offers navigational features and real-time prompts, aiding seniors in seamlessly navigating their surroundings and accessing pertinent information. This study targets residents aged 50 and above from urban and rural settings. Through a review of literature and drawing from both domestic and international theories and practical experiences, the study employs AR to conduct comparative testing on life quality enhancement and supportive services. Observational records and structured interviews are used to compile feedback. The results indicate that urban residents have a higher acceptance and satisfaction rate with AR technology, particularly among newcomers. The findings elucidate the potential of using AR in designing cross-cultural environments within senior communities, offering new solutions for barrier-free and accessible experiences. This is vitally important for supporting sustainable development in an aging society and paves the way for future innovations in design and technology applications.
