Digital communication has an increasingly important role in relationships between members of transnational families since space tends to be re-signified between the digital and the face-to-face as a way of maintaining relational dynamics. This paper presents qualitative research, conducted between the last quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, with Portuguese people who have adult children who have emigrated (N = 20). The results show us the importance of reflecting on the process of ageing in a transnational family, particularly considering the many challenges that digital technologies can enhance or create new ones, leading to an ambivalent situation.
