Various effects of olfactory stimulus presentation on the retention of memory have been reported. However, no previous studies have determined the best method of olfactory presentation for improving memory retention. Therefore, this study compares olfactory pulse presentation, which induces olfactory adaptation with olfactory pulse presentation and reduces adaptation. In addition, the temporal pattern of the pulse presentation is focused on memory consolidation. This olfactory presentation during default mode network (DMN) activity. DMN is observed when information is organized in the brain. No differences were found between in the results of the memory test between continuous presentation and DMN presentation after a video was viewed. However, when the test was repeated one week later, the results showed there was a difference between the pre- and post-weekly results of the continuous presentation. However, no difference was observed between the pre- and post-weekly results of the DMN presentation. This suggests that memory retention was maintained over time after the DMN presentation. However, the temporal pattern of DMN activity may have been altered by the olfactory presentation, which suggests the need for further investigation into the temporal pattern of olfactory presentation.
