We quantitatively investigate and compare the design characteristics of Japanese and Chinese e-commerce (EC) sites and develop a design tool that reflects these characteristics for cross-border EC sites. When Japanese and Chinese EC companies build websites targeting users in their respective countries, matching the design to the customs and preferences of the other country may lead to the natural acceptance of the site and facilitate business expansion. The effectiveness of the tool was confirmed by evaluating its usability and the acceptability of the site design by users in the other country, with five people from each country creating the site and 11 people from each country evaluating it. In addition, we attempt to automatically interconvert product images by considering the characteristics of each country using CycleGAN, a type of generative AI. Cross-border EC is expected to expand further, and tools such as those described in this study have the potential to contribute to its development.
