The generation of security-relevant random and pseudo-random numbers is a key element of many modern IT and non-IT processes. Sometimes an important aspect of random number generation is the ability of external party to verify that the ransom number generation was not manipulated by any involved party. Smart contract platforms, based on blockchains, are used in various industries and they may easily be used to generate publicly verifiable random numbers due to some of public blockchain’s features like security, immutability, non-repudiation and full transparency.
