摘要

Due to the superior physical and chemical characteristics of nanostructure materials over their macrostructure counterparts, nanotechnology has been ingrained in many industries and offered astonishing applications. Nanotechnology has completely changed food sector practices such as testing, packaging, preservation, and processing.Sophisticated packaging based on nanotechnology guarantees food safety while maintaining quality, nutrition, and flavor. It preserves the mechanical, physiological, physical, and chemical qualities of food while preventing infection as well. Food packaging is improved by a variety of nanomaterials, leading to more biobased, active, intelligent, and smart packaging. Food safety is guaranteed by smart packaging, which uses sensors to identify contaminants, gasses, moisture, temperature, and other factors. An environmentally beneficial substitute for traditional plastics, bio-based packaging uses materials that are both biodegradable and biocompatible; nonetheless, issues with material qualities and cost still exist. Research on enhanced, intelligent, and active packaging is well-established; however, bio-based packaging has received less attention. Natural polymers are preferred to conventional plastics in this next-generation packaging. An introduction of the several types of nanopackaging materials is given in this chapter, with an emphasis on bio-based packing and the unique characteristics of enhanced, intelligent, and active packaging. Along with the possible dangers connected to nanoparticle migration, it also covers new developments in bio-based packaging.
