Virtuous Leadership in a Post-Pandemic World
摘要
This chapter elaborates on a model of virtuous leadership aiming to change management in a post-Covid-19 organizational environment. The Covid-19 pandemic underscored the crucial role of leaders’ dispositions and driving forces in overcoming unprecedented challenges during turbulent times. Based on virtues and character development, and grounded in virtue ethics as a robust philosophical foundation, virtuous leadership advocates for the practice and enactment of virtues, fostering character strengths and innate dispositions in leaders’ personalities. Virtuous leadership’s comprehensive approach, entrenched in Aristotelian premises, simultaneously considers relationship-oriented competences, generating beneficial outcomes centered on leader’s excellence. Consequently, it promotes high-quality relationships with followers and society. Virtuous leadership supports personal and organizational transformation, resulting in sustainable, equitable, and socially responsible business practices. Through encouraging virtuous leadership, business organizations are in position to maintain a socially desirable balance between economic development and environmental issues, enhancing sustainability and social justice.
