The Caucasus region is strategically located between Europe and Asia as well as the Eurasian steppes and the Middle East, often connecting them through a web of major and medium-sized trade routes. It is this geographic importance which pushed foreign powers to seek domination over the region and to control “silk roads” which traversed this geography.
