The inferior thalamic radiation (ITR) connects the posterior thalamus and medial geniculate nucleus with the temporal lobe and includes the acoustic radiation. A large component of the ITR arises from the pulvinar and medial geniculate nucleus. From the thalamus, the ITR then extends laterally within the sagittal stratum and then fans out laterally to pulvinar and geniculate projections to the superior temporal gyrus, and pulvinar projections the middle temporal gyrus. A large component part composed of the bundle of Arnold connects the anterior temporal lobe.
