The superior putaminal projections (SPP) connect the putamen with the dorsal convexity of the cerebral hemisphere. The inferior origin of SPP is from the dorsal putamen, lateral to the corticospinal tracts and the globus pallidus. The SPP course vertically, lateral to the lateral ventricle and thalamocortical tracts and medial to the insula running within the external capsule. The cortical connections of SPP are to the posterior superior frontal gyrus, the pre- and postcentral gyri, paracentral lobule, and superior parietal lobule.
