The anterior putaminal projections (APP) connect the anterior putamen to the anterior frontal lobe. These project anteriorly from the anterior putamen within the external capsule, medial to the insula, and at the inferior end of the claustrum. More anteriorly, APP are lateral to the caudate projections, lateral to the subthalamic projections, and close to the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus. The APP spreads out to the whole anterior frontal lobe.
