The inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF) connects the occipital lobe with the basal temporal lobe. From the temporal pole, ILF courses posteriorly, deep to the superior and middle temporal gyri, on the lateral border of the uncinate fasciculus, and inferior to the middle longitudinal fasciculus. When posterior to the uncinate fasciculus, ILF joins the inferior and lateral edge of the sagittal stratum and runs infero-lateral to the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) and medial to the arcuate fasciculus and its posterior segment. At mid brainstem level, ILF is deep to the fusiform gyrus. In the posterior temporal lobe, ILF is infero-lateral to IFOF and lateral and inferior to the lateral ventricle. ILF then splays into the superior, middle, and inferior occipital gyri and medial occipital lobe.
