The anterior end of the middle longitudinal fasciculus (MLF) is in the anterior and middle part of the superior temporal gyrus. In the posterior part of the superior temporal gyrus, MLF is lateral to the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF). The trajectory of MLF follows the plane of the superior temporal gyrus, elevating posteriorly deep to the supramarginal gyrus, close to the arcuate fasciculus. MLF is initially lateral to the occipital horn and inferior to the superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF) III. More posteriorly, MLF is medial to SLF II and superior to the occipital horn. MLF then runs deep to the angular gyrus and lateral to the dorsal cingulum, aligned with the superior IFOF. The posterior end of MLF is in the superior parietal gyrus, abutting the precuneus.
