The Impact of Major Energy Indexes on the Economic Growth of EU Countries, According to the Contribution of Industry to GDP

Energy efficiency refers to the way of managing and controlling the growth in energy consumption. Energy efficiency is a key pillar of the European Union (EU) climate and energy strategy and the driving factors that associate or measure this concept are increasingly important. This paper aims to examine the contribution of energy indicators on the GDP of the 27 EU members from 1995 to 2020, in a more generalized view. The stratification of the EU countries according to the contribution of industry to GDP, is novel and draws important conclusions. Upon study of these indicators, nuclear and renewable energy production, natural gas and fossil fuel imports, electricity and natural gas exports, consumption from all three major sectors—industry, transportation, households—together with CO2 emissions, significantly contribute to GDP, but in a much differentiated manner for each group of countries. These are important policy indicators of environmental protection and economic development.
