In open cast mining, Haul Road plays a vital role in transportation of ore and waste from safety and economic aspect. The continuous movement of heavy vehicles over a period of time affect the stability of haul road, resulting in its deterioration or surface distress. This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the application of geotextiles to improve the load-bearing capacity of a haul road situated within an open cast mining. California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests were conducted to assess the performance of virgin soil samples and soils augmented with geotextiles at varying depths of 1.5 cm, 3 cm, 4.5 cm, 7 cm, and 8.5 cm. The findings reveal significant enhancements in CBR values, particularly with a geotextile depth of 4.5 cm, resulting in a noteworthy increase from 3.15% to 5.61%. These results demonstrate the immense potential of geotextiles as a sustainable and cost-effective solution for reinforcing the load-bearing capacity of haul roads. The implications of this study provide valuable insights for engineers and practitioners in the mining industry, offering an innovative approach to enhance road performance, durability, and safety.
