The upsurge in anti-Black racism in recent times has evoked conversations about race and racism among caregivers and families. This book chapter, therefore, delineates why conversations about race, racism, and anti-Black racism matter for all Canadian caregivers/families regardless of their social locations. Using the tenets of the reconceptualist movement and the underlying principles of antiracist pedagogy, the authors discuss the importance of caregivers/families using realistic and tangible strategies to educate their early years children about race and anti-Black racism. The strategies discussed include caregivers/families enhancing their children/family members’ awareness and effects of racism, self-advocacy, character development, literacy-rich environment, and play.
