The Role of the COIL Model in Advancing SDG 1 and SDG 2: A Case Study in Jordan’s Distance Learning for Refugee Education
摘要
This chapter explores a virtual exchange known as the COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) Model’s role in enhancing refugee enrollment in Jordan’s higher education via distance learning. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this study emphasizes SDG1 and SDG2, which target the eradication of poverty and hunger, respectively. Through a Jordanian case study, we showcase how COIL transforms refugees from poverty-stricken individuals to empowered learners. The aim is to boost refugees’ higher education enrollment rate to 15% by 2030. This is not just a target but a commitment to arm them with vital skills and knowledge. In our interconnected world, COIL offers refugees a gateway into the global labor market, involving them in international collaborative endeavors and exposing them to diverse cultures and perspectives. This expands their outlook and fosters a culture of knowledge exchange. Furthermore, the chapter highlights the significance of volunteerism, especially in refugee camps and impoverished regions.
