Vietnam’s Automotive Industry: Expansion with Limited Development
摘要
This chapter provides an overview over the Vietnamese automotive industry and its development since the 1990s. It emphasises Vietnam’s late industrialisation in conjunction with the country’s economic integration into ASEAN and the arising challenges for building an automotive industry. It is argued that absence of clear industrial policies did contribute to the relative lack of development. Finally, the chapter explores if and how the creation of a privately owned Vietnamese carmaker could support industry development, and the assessment highlights a number of major development challenges associated with it
