This is not the first dream discussed in the Seminar, as the first is little Anna Freud’s dream about strawberries. Rather it is the first adult dream Lacan takes up and, luckily enough, it is a very short dream, which at least on the face of it seems rather uncomplicated. He doesn’t take it from the first edition of The Interpretation of Dreams, but from “Formulations on the Two Principles of Mental Functioning,” published in 1911 (the dream was included in later editions of The Interpretation of Dreams).

He doesn’t take it from the first edition of The Interpretation of Dreams, but from “Formulations on the Two Principles of Mental Functioning,” published in 1911 (the dream was included in later editions of The Interpretation of Dreams).
